Initially, Captain Ginyu intends to slay Vegeta by himself, but when his subordinates complain that they have not had the opportunity to fight, Ginyu concedes, allowing them to deal with Vegeta and the others while he returns the Dragon Balls to Frieza's Spaceship. Efficient as they are, the Ginyu Force does not take long to track down their targets and locate all seven Dragon Balls, with the rest of his team showing off their special talents, such as Burter's tremendous speed and Guldo's time freezing. The force spends five days traveling the stars en route to Namek, and upon reaching the planet, Frieza dispatches the team to capture Vegeta, kill his two companions ( Krillin and Gohan), and recover the Dragon Balls which have since been stolen by Vegeta. This is seen when he is the only one of his comrades to recognize that Goku was concealing his true power level and releasing it in short spurts. He is shown to have a very developed understanding of ki and fighting. He is noted by his subordinates to always research the mission at hand before acting. Unlike his comrades, Ginyu is a very calculating and methodical man, preferring a pragmatic approach in battle. Despite his loyalty to Frieza, however, he nonetheless claimed to Goku that he "doesn't follow the orders of anyone" when the latter told him to surrender upon exposing his true power level of 180,000. Presumably, this genuine loyalty is why Ginyu never uses (or attempts to use) his Body Change technique on Frieza. Even after he swapped bodies with a Namekian Frog, despite his long tenure being stuck in this form, he endured without giving up hope due to his belief that one day he would be able to one day serve Frieza again. His loyalty is further shown by following any order Frieza gives him. Ginyu is one of the few men who genuinely reveres Frieza. However, he also can be quite harsh to his team members if they fail a mission, as shown when he harshly scolds Jeice for letting Burter and Recoome lose to Goku and (in the FUNimation dub only) running away from the fight. Ginyu is shown to care deeply about his teammates, becoming incredibly furious when learning from Jeice that his three other subordinates were defeated and killed. Goku takes note of this and insinuates that Ginyu may not be all bad and even capable of redemption.
While very arrogant and merciless in battle, Ginyu has displayed a strong sense of honor in combat and prefers fairness in his battles, as shown when he refused to break Goku's neck due to Jeice interfering in their fight, and even threatening to kill Jeice if he did it again. He wears black underwear as his lower body armor. Ginyu wears a black variant of the Battle Armor that Frieza's forces wear, with lower side guards, black and white wrist bracers, and the addition of the Ginyu Force insignia on the upper left side of the chest plate. Two black conical horns protrude from the top sides of his head. The top of his head displays prominent veins, similar to that of a human brain. In his most commonly seen body, Captain Ginyu is a tall, purple humanoid alien.
